the city sparkled like diamonds against a velvet sky. she walks against the bare white walls, candles flicker, she steadies herself along the way. the last mouthful of wine burns her throat as cigarette smoke engulfs her. a suitcase sits in the corner, waiting.

her name is sophia, and she knows this night, like the many before it, will soon be a distant memory.
